4th of July Weekend - Skinnygirl Tips
Hi guys! Thanks so much for all of your support. The book is flying off the shelves and I've just finished writing my second book: The Skinnygirl Dish, on shelves in January 2010. I'm going to reach out to you once a month to give you some skinnygirl tips to get you through whatever comes your way.
This weekend its Fourth of July, so don't get it into your head that you're going to be bad and fix it next week. There is no bad nor good and food isn't your best friend nor your enemy. So here goes:
As for cocktails, try to limit yourself to 2 (or because its a holiday to 3) but at those meals, limit your carbs, bread and sweets. You know what that means. Your diet is a bank account and you are investing in booze, so get rid of the hot dog or hamburger bun, fill up on high fiber salads and try to avoid the ice cream cake. If you must indulge in any of this, have a few bites and taste everything. Eat nothing.
As for your drinks, have a skinnygirl margarita or skinnify whatever cocktail you want. If its a rum punch, have clear rum (always clear liquor) club soda (the best low cal filler) and a splash of the punch or fattening component with a squeeze of lemon or lime. Use this equation with all drinks. Clear liquor, soda, a splash of the sugary component and a squeeze of citrus.
As of August 1, you can buy my bottled margarita in any liquor store, or now order at www.skinnygirlcocktails.com.
As for the food this weekend, have the turkey burger, fill up on high-fiber salads first, so you eat less of the fattening stuff. Don't skip meals and save for the big event. Spoil your appetite before parties with a good investment 200 calorie snack such as nut butter or hummus on whole grain bread, edamame or a few slices of turkey with cheese. Have a plan! Taste everything. Eat nothing if faced with a variety of indulgent foods, try to drink water and please think of your diet as a bank account.
Don't wear baggy clothes. Strut your bikini and you'll be more likely to reel it in at the buffet. You've got this. You have learned to be naturally thin, and no red, white and blue holiday can change that.

Hey Bethenny, I tried to get to meet you in Atlantic City, it was so disorganized, I was wondering how it even went......I miss seeing you on the "Bonnie Hunt" show, she is soooo funny, as are you.....I am a big fan, you crack me up.
Bethenny - Seriously? Fox News commenting on Michael Jackson??? You are MUCH cooler than that. Fox News???
Love you, Bethany! You are the funniest and smartest of all the NYC housewives :)
I was wondering when the drinks would be in stores! I love making the lychee martinis myself at home - such a mellow, sweet & smooth taste but without too much sugar! Bethenny Thank You! for your up-date blogs and support for the other skinny girls out here! It really makes it feel like we're in it together! Love ya!
wow!! looks like you're super busy - working on second book already :) i'm sure it will have the same impact as your first. enjoyed watching on the show, love your no nonsense sense of humor!
Hey Bethenny! Hope you're doing well these days. I just wanted to say congrat's on the bottled version of SGM! Hope it does well.
I'm sittin here recording the 1st season and lol'n at the Miami trip when the whole "She's packin, and she's leavin" thing.
Too funny. :)
I love your reading your blog and I am obessed with your book! Thanks for sharing your tips!
Great advice Bethany. I have been overweight or obese for most of my life. now at 52 I am seeing an obesity specialist to finally help me take it off and more importantly keep it. I have lost countless hundreds of pounds in the past 40 years only to gain them all back with a few extra for good measure. I know that if I want to be around for my granddaughter, I need to do this or die trying.
Your tips fit right in with what Dr. Beth tells me at our monthly meetings.
Thanks for helping us chubby girls
be more like yourself. We really do want to do it.

Hi Bethenny. My name is Nicole Katz and I am a huge fan of yours. We are about the same age (I'm 40) and you are a true inspiration to me. I watched you on Housewives and you were my instant favorite. I purchased your book when it came out and have been reading it daily ever since. I recently started a blog solely dedicated to following and writing about the Naturally Thin "program". Please check out my blog and tell me what you think. Congratulations on all your success. I look forward to seeing you on Season 2. You looked amazing on "Alexa Chung" today on MTV. I didn't even know you were going to be on!
Just made your cucumber salad recipe from Naturally Thin and it's sooooo yummy!!! Officially my favorite summer salad! Can't wait for the book to come out- hope you'll do a signing tour!
Bethany, you are soooo loved by me here in Brisbane, Australia. I see you on RWNYC and you are by far the best person in the group that you associate with. You only haven't met a real man because you are too genuine! Love your guts... you are the greatest
To be honest, I hate watching what I eat. I love to bake, I love to go out and indulge with friends, I can't stand taking "just one bite" of anything if I can't devour the rest of it. But unfortunately for me I also love being skinny, and skinny and power food helpings don't go together. Do not listen to skinny people who say they can eat like a horse and stay skinny. Unless that horse is the size of a My Little Pony toy they are lying. I know, I've sprung that heinous lie on decent, law abiding folk for years. The truth is in Bethenny's book. To be thin, you need to be mindful of what your choices are and take note of everything you put in your mouth. You also need to admit to the fact that everything that goes into your mouth is put there by you. And here's another thing...you've got to do this for life. That's where I occasionally slip up. Sometimes it just gets too much for my bulk food loving self and the next thing I know I've put on 5 or so lbs and am hating myself(but Oh it was so much fun getting there). Frankly I don't care that the rest of the world thinks I'm slim, especially when "normal size" these days is downright chubby. As I said, I like to be skinny and this book is a lovely reminder/kick in the pants of everything that I already know works. Now I'm on this journey with the rest of you. Trust me, every skinnygirl out there above the age of puberty is mindful of what she eats. Some of us, err ..that would be me, go into month long PMS mode and eat everything in sight, so need a little helpful shove back onto the path of dietary enlightenment. So its time to reenter what I call my "baby-bite" mode, or as Bethenny puts it, "taste everything, eat nothing". Its not always as fun as scarfing down a plate load of buffet desserts but it comes without the side of guilt and let's face it, being skinny is a powerfully fabulous state of being.
